Tabacon's all-volunteer Green Brigade is comprised of staff members from many departments around the company, working both at the resort and in the administrative offices in San Jose. The goal of this group is to supervise the company's eco-friendly practices, to improve green processes and launch new initiatives that are friendly to the environment.
The Corporate Mission of Tabacon Grand Spa clearly identifies protecting the environment as a top concern for all stakeholders in the company. More than just recycling or reducing emissions, the resort's goal is to improve its sustainable practices every day. The Green Brigade is charged with taking the company in the right direction. The Green Brigade has played an active role in turning Tabacon into a Carbon Neutral resort, improving its rankings in the Costa Rica's Government Program for Sustainable Tourism CST and working towards the Arenal Volcano region's Biosphere of Water and Peace Initiatives.
Other sustainable and social programs led by the Green Brigade include working with department heads to find unused assets to donate them to charitable causes, to reduce waste in operations, to grow and maintain Tabacon's own organic herb and vegetable garden, to supervise the management and disposal of recyclable products, and to work together with local schools and a group of Single Parent Homes headed by Women.
The group is also actively working towards the reforestation of the natural springs south of the main hot springs resort and the development of a Biological Corridor south of the main developed area, with aid from local school children and Tabacon employees.
Guests are encouraged to participate in the program to rebuild the rainforest, actively building their involvement in sustainable and eco friendly vacations. We welcome your suggestions to further this program. Please contact green@tabacon.com for all inquiries.
